Sturdy, but a couple of improvements needed

It's a well-built product and has most of what I'm looking for. BUT, two concerns led me to return it. The shackle can be removed by anyone just unscrewing it, or can shake loose from road vibrations — needs a locking pin. Also, it's so thick that a tow hook won't fit, which defeats the purpose for my use case.

Loop detached, safety concern

The product was decent overall � fit nicely in the receiver and I added a separate lock. However, just one week in, the entire horseshoe loop fell off the hitch. Not sure if it was stolen or simply came loose. I wouldn't have trusted any load on the hook anyway, and I'm glad the issue showed itself early. Not safe and not guaranteed. Buyer beware.

Heads up to shoppers � I had to write this because GearAmerica is falsely advertising. Their website video for the "Mega Shackle Hitch Receiver" clearly says MADE IN AMERICA, but when the product arrived it no longer shows that claim � instead a big sticker on the box reads "Made In China." That's false advertising. GearChina, update your website. The product looks fine, but there are comparable Chinese-made options for much less. It's great that you donate 10% to St. Jude � we donate to them too � but consumers buying your products aren't getting a tax credit for your donations. At this price point, please consider actually making your products in America.
